Cell-cycle arrest is not the same as long-term tumour control.
That difference matters in patients.🧑🤝🧑
After treatment, cancer cells can follow two paths.
🧬 Cell-cycle arrest
Cells stop dividing.
They remain alive.
Scans often look reassuring 📊
🧬 Cell-cycle escape
Cells adapt.
Division slowly returns.
Resistance builds quietly ⚠️
This gap is easy to miss.
During my PhD, I observed clear cell-cycle arrest in cancer cells after FEC chemotherapy 🧪💊.
Growth stopped.
Cells survived.🧫
Early responses looked convincing.
With time, some cells adapted despite treatment.
That experience changed how I interpret “stable disease.”
Scans show size.
Biology shows intent 🔬
Escape often begins long before progression appears.
What this means clinically 🏥:
Stable scans do not always reflect stable biology
Early biological changes matter
Timing can shape long-term outcome
👇
What early biological shift signals that control may not be durable?
